Berlin

The city was divided in 1945 into US, British and French sectors (West Berlin) and a Soviet sector (East Berlin). With the fall of Communism and the opening of the Wall (1989), Berlin became the capitol of the reunified Germany in 1991. The River Spree runs through the centre of the city with its many connecting canals and lakes. It was host to the 1936 Olympic Games.
